DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
A Notice of Vacancy was posted on April 14, 2026, after receiving a resignation by a Commission member for the Other Agricultural Interests position.
The Agricultural Commission is comprised of seven members, not officials of the county, appointed by the Board of Supervisors, representing the following industries: Forestry/Related (1), Livestock (2), Fruit and Nut Farming (2), Agricultural Processing (1), and Other Agricultural Interests (1).
In accordance with Agricultural Commission Bylaws adopted by the Board of Supervisors on April 8, 2026, the Agricultural Commission member for Other Agricultural Interest resigned. Notice of Terms of Office Expirations were submitted to the local newspapers and to county agricultural organizations. In addition, an independent Review Panel comprised of industry representatives as identified in the Agricultural Commission By-Laws § 4(a), met on June 1, 2026, to interview candidates.
Applications were required to be submitted by close of business May 12, 2026, to the Board of Supervisors office. As a result of the notifications, there were three applications received for the position. The review panel interviewed the applicants and voted unanimously to refer Kevin Jones to the position for Other Agricultural Interest appointment.
