Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: Funding will come from the OHV In-Lieu Special Revenue Account.
Background:
August 3, 1887, the Board of Supervisors declared the Rubicon Trail a public highway. El Dorado County working with the El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce, and the Rubicon Trail Foundation would like to promote the 125 Anniversary of this historic event. Rubicon Trail Foundation responded to the Request for Proposals for promotions funding to promote the event. While scoring high and the committee valuing the event, they were not successful in their proposal.
2012 is also the 60th Anniversary of the Jeeper's Jamboree, another historic event for El Dorado County. This is also the 40th year of the Off-Highway Division of State Parks. El Dorado County will be working with the State and Jeeper's Jamboree to coordinate events, information, and will be present at the El Dorado County Fair this year in celebration of the anniversary and to promote our educational campaign on the Rubicon Trail. The El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce would like to promote this historic event in the State Fair exhibit this year.
This budget transfer includes funding for the purchase of an equipment trailer for the Department of Transportation. This trailer is needed to store and haul the camping equipment used annually by the maintenance crew on the trail and to transport the off highway vehicle that was awarded in an operations and maintenance grant from State Parks, OHV Division in FY10/11
Reason for Recommendation:
El Dorado County has put a lot of time and resources into maintenance of the Rubicon Trail in an effort to save this valuable resource. This is an opportunity to celebrate 125 years of the Crown Jewel of OHV Trails and the economic impact this treasure has to our county.
Funding is needed for promotional materials.
Action to be taken following Board approval:
1) Staff will begin working with partner agencies to organize events to promote the 125th anniversary.
2) Staff will work with Purchasing to obtain an equipment trailer.
