DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The Historical Museum Commission was established by Ordinance 4551 to assist the County in maintaining a vision and subsequent goals for the County Museum; to encourage opportunities for County residents to become involved in the historic interpretation and presentation of historical artifacts and documents important to the County.

The ordinance of the Historical Museum Commission needs an update to reflect recent changes in the Library Department's organization and administration. With the retirement of the Museum Administrator, the structure and oversight of museum operations have changed, requiring a modernization of the governing framework. Converting the current ordinance to a resolution will allow more flexibility for future updates and ensure the commission’s roles, responsibilities, and reporting structure are clearly defined and aligned with current County practices. This update will also include minor administrative corrections to enhance clarity and consistency.

With the Board’s approval, Library staff will return to the Board with an Ordinance to repeal Article VI, Sections 2.20.350 through 2.20.440, a Resolution to establish the Historical Museum Commission, and governing bylaws for the Board’s consideration (first and final readings).
