Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: None for FY2011-12. Funding for FY2012-13 will be included in next year's budget.
Background: The mission of the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task force is to work collaboratively to arrest and successfully prosecute individuals engaged in high technology crimes such as computer component theft, gray marketing of technology crimes such as computer component theft, gray marketing of technology, narcotic trafficking, gambling, Internet-related crimes, telecommunication fraud and identify theft.
Reason for Recommendation: Prior to Fiscal Year 2010/11, the Sheriff's Office received this funding to offset costs associated with participating in the Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force. In Fiscal Year 2010/11 the grant funding was not available. However, due to the proliferation of technology related crimes and the need to continue investigating these crimes, the Sheriff's Office reduced expenses in other areas in order to continue providing resoruces to these types of investigations.
The Sheriff's Office was recently notified that funding in the amount of $70,000 was restored in Fiscal Year 2011/12. As a result, the Sheriff's Office is requesting that your Board approve this MOU and also approve the request to increase overtime appropriation in an equal amount in order to restore reductions that were made when this revenue was eliminated in Fiscal Year 2010/11.
Action to be taken following Board approval: The Sheriff will sign the MOU and return a copy to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.
