DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
On August 7, 2024, the El Dorado County Sheriff, in his capacity as Director of the Office of Emergency Services, pursuant to Government Code Section 8630, proclaimed a local emergency based on conditions relating to the Crozier Fire.
On August 8, 2024, the El Dorado County Health Officer declared a Local Health Emergency pursuant to California Health & Safety Code Section 101080, that a local health emergency existed in the County due to hazardous waste in the form of contaminated debris from hazardous waste/materials and structural debris from the Crozier Fire.
The Resolutions ratified August 13, 2024, by the Board of Supervisors said that the two emergencies - the Local Emergency and the Local Health Emergency - would continue in effect until terminated by the Board. Ending the emergencies is now an appropriate step for the Board of Supervisors to take, as all contaminated debris from hazardous waste/materials and structural debris has been removed.
