DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The Department of Transportation, together with the Planning and Building Department, have reviewed and recommend the Board of Supervisors' (Board) approval of the proposed Shingle Springs community identity sign design (Attachment A) in accordance with the 2015 Zoning Ordinance 130.36 (Ordinance) adopted 2015 (Attachment B). The project encroachment permit application was submitted in 2025 before the adoption of the Ordinance updates that went into effect on October 16, 2025 (Legistar 25-1480). The sign, if approved, will be placed in the County right-of-way, located at the southeast corner of South Shingle Road and Durock Road in Shingle Springs. Transportation has issued the encroachment permit, and no other action can be taken until the Board approves the design.

The Shingle Springs Community Alliance led community outreach and has provided several opportunities since 2013 (see Attachment C) for the community to participate in the development and consideration of this proposal, and it recommends approving this community identity sign design.

ALTERNATIVES

The Board could choose not to approve the design and recommend changes. Staff would make changes and return to the Board at a later date.
