DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION

The Sheriff’s Office recommends the Board authorize the Chair to sign and ratify the Sheriff’s signature on the new Cooperative Law Enforcement Agreement in order to receive reimbursement for the enforcement of State and local laws related to the administration and regulation of NFS lands.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The Cooperative Law Enforcement Agreement between the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and the US Forest Service ElDorado National Forest, and US Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, outlines the broad general parameters of the working relationship between the County and the US Forest Service for the enforcement of State and local laws in connection with activities on NFS lands.

The US Forest Service will prepare and submit an Annual Financial and Operating Plan as Exhibit A for patrolling on Forest Service lands, and Exhibit B for controlled substances investigation, following adoption of this Agreement by the participants.  These exhibits will provide for the reimbursement to the County for the costs of law enforcement.  Following receipt from the US Forest Service, Exhibits A and B will be submitted to the Board for approval and signature at a later date upon review by County Counsel.  Annual revenue is estimated at $20,000.
