DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The Sheriff’s Office applied and was awarded the CTFGP funding in the amount of $164,540.93. Final approval and award are contingent upon receiving documentation from the local governing body, the County Board of Supervisors, authorizing the Sheriff’s Office to receive the grant funding.

The goal in submitting the grant application was to receive funding for a program that would allow the Sheriff’s Office to reduce and mitigate the impacts of impaired driving in the community. The intent of the program is to educate the public regarding the dangers of impaired driving, enforce impaired driving laws on the roadway, and improve the organization/agency’s effectiveness through training and development of new strategies. Having this knowledge and training will increase the overall safety of the community. The Sheriff’s Office will use this funding to perform regular DUI enforcement patrols and to purchase two new intoximeters. These deputies will respond to reported DUI’s from Central Dispatch as well as actively looking for unreported DUI drivers.

The Sheriff’s Office will include the appropriations and revenues related to this grant in the adopted budget.
