DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
Department of Agriculture and Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services is bringing to the Board of Supervisors the El Dorado County Disaster Livestock and Agricultural Access Pass Program to be utilized in the event of a disaster in El Dorado County.
Under California Food and Agriculture Code section 2350 the Board of Supervisors may approve the County Agricultural Commissioner, or other designated agency, to establish a county livestock program, and other counties have expanded that program to include commercial agricultural producers.
During the Caldor and Mosquito fires access to livestock and crops was vital to maintenance of our agricultural industry and it is critical this is done in a safe and effective manner.
The Disaster Agricultural Access Program is a partnership between farmers in El Dorado County and local government agencies to facilitate commercial crop and livestock access in a safe and cooperative manner before, during, and after wildfire and other emergencies.
The passes will be administered and approved through the County Agricultural Commissioner's Office and the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services.
