DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The Facilities Division seeks approval of Lease Agreement 9175 with El Dorado Gun Club, Inc. for continued use of County-owned property located at 5941 Union Mine Rd, El Dorado, CA, for operation of a rifle, pistol, archery, and shotgun range. The El Dorado Rod & Gun Club (Gun Club) has been allowed to use a 40-acre portion of County property (Assessor’s Parcel Number 92-010-27) since 1996 as a rifle, pistol, archery, and shotgun range. The agreement provides for a three-year term commencing upon full execution, with options for extension as outlined in the lease. This agreement supports recreational opportunities and public safety training in the County. No rent will be charged to the Gun Club, as the Gun Club is providing a public benefit to the residents of El Dorado County by providing free access to the range by state, federal, and local law enforcement agencies for firearms training and proficiency programs. Approving this lease agreement will allow the Gun Club to continue to offer these vital services to local law enforcement agencies.

ALTERNATIVES

The Board could decline to approve the lease, which would result in discontinuation of the Gun Club’s use of the property.
