Title

Information Technologies Department recommending the Board approve the addition of two PowerEdge R550 Domain Controllers and nine PowerEdge R450 Domain Controllers to IT’s Fiscal Year 2024-25 Fixed Asset List.

FUNDING:  General Fund.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The Information Technologies (IT) Department is requesting to purchase two Dell PowerEdge R550 Server Domain Controllers and nine Dell PowerEdge R450 Server Domain Controllers. A domain controller is a server that responds to security authentication requests within a computer network domain. They are a critical component in a Windows-based network, typically deployed as a cluster to ensure high-availability and to maximize reliability. Domain controllers perform several key functions such as maintaining the Active Directory database, providing domain authentications, managing user accounts, and preventing unauthorized access and ensuring ease of employee accessibility to critical applications.

The fixed asset purchase is estimated at $65,702, plus applicable shipping, for the two PowerEdge R550 and nine PowerEdge R450 domain controllers. An additional estimated $16,465 for hardware ProSupport extended services is also included in this purchase, which is planned through ePlus, using NASPO competitively bid cooperative master agreement 23026.

The IT Department has budget savings in fixed assets to cover the costs of these items. There is no change to Net County Cost for the purchase of these items and no budget transfer is needed to complete this order. The purpose of this item is to approve the additional fixed asset category that was not requested during the recommended or adopted budget processes.

ALTERNATIVES

The Board could deny adding this category for fixed assets, which would cancel the purchase processes, leaving the County with server vulnerabilities.
