Body

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:

The Sheriff’s Office currently uses the Nimble CS3000 server and storage system for large amounts of data storage. The Nimble CS3000 system reached its manufacturer's end-of-life in November 2018, and reached the end-of-support in November 2023. The modern advancement in law enforcement technology, cyber-attacks, and ransomware also increased the need for a resilient SAN, law enforcement transparency, and workplace efficiency.

The Dell VxRail and PowerStore SAN for VMware servers and storage will host our critical servers including the Sun Ridge Records Management System, Jail Management System, Computer-Aided Dispatch system, Office365, In-Car Video system, and our data drives. It will allow the Sheriff’s Office to continue to provide uninterrupted public services to the community.

ALTERNATIVE

The Board could request staff look for alternate purchase options, which would delay the renewal of our VMware coverage and jeopardize our network platform stability and security.
