DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
Human Resources Department, in collaboration with the Sheriff’s Office, has conducted a comprehensive review and update of the job specification for the Correctional Lieutenant position. This review was necessary to ensure that the job description accurately reflects the current roles and responsibilities as they have evolved within the County’s operations.
In partnership with the El Dorado County Managers’ Association (representing the Management Unit), HR has finalized a revised job specification. A key outcome of this update is the recommendation to re-title the position to "Sheriff’s Correctional Lieutenant" for consistency with other Sheriff-specific classifications.
These revisions aim to clarify job responsibilities, support more strategic staffing decisions, and ensure that personnel have the necessary guidance to effectively meet the needs of the Sheriff’s Office and the County. The updated job specification will enhance the transparency of the Correctional Lieutenant role and provide staff with clear pathways for professional development and career advancement.

The Board could choose not to approve the recommendation and direct Human Resources to make revisions or conduct additional analysis.
