Body

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:

Due to wear and tear, one existing commercial laundry dryer, which is 20 years old, located at the County Navigation Center has recently stopped working. After conferring with Chief Administrative Office (CAO), Facilities Division (Facilities), Facilities, determined that it was more feasible for HHSA to purchase a new commercial dryer after reviewing dryer lease pricing and repair options with existing external vendors. Repair quotes came in at around the same cost as a new dryer purchase, and leasing quotes were higher over the life of the contract. Due to cost savings of new equipment over leased or repaired, HHSA is seeking to purchase new equipment to replace the faulty dryer at the Navigation Center. Facilities staff has agreed to assist in the installation of the new appliance at the Navigation Center.

In accordance with Board Procurement Policy C-17, Section 3.2, HHSA conducted an informal solicitation and received quotes from three vendors, in which Granger was the selected vendor due to being the lowest responsive bidder.

The dryer is a critical piece of the infrastructure of the Navigation Center, therefore, to ensure continuity of laundry services, HHSA is recommending the Board approve this agenda item.

 ALTERNATIVES:

Should the Board decline to authorize this BTR and Fixed Asset transfer request, HHSA will be unable to replace the broken commercial dryer, hindering the County’s ability to provide laundry services at the County Navigation Center.
