Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: Grant funding has been included in the Sheriff's FY2010-11 budget. The funding must be expended by September 30, 2010. At the time of initial Board approval there was insufficient time to process a bid and receive the purchase before June 30, 2010.
Background: On May 18, 2010 the Board authorized the Sheriff to sign agreement 09-204-816 accepting $30,000 for boating equipment. The State of California Department of Boating and Waterways provides the Sheriff with an annual grant for an intervention program on the County's lakes and waterways. As an extention of that program, the State also offers equipment grants for items above and beyond the cost of the day to day operation.
Reason for Recommendation: The Sheriff has signed and returned the grant documents to the State of California Department of Boating and Waterways for the purchase of two (2) personal watercraft (PWC's) for the Boat Unit at an estimated cost of $15,000. Specifications for the bid have been provided to Purchasing. Once the bid is complete, the Sheriff's Dept will purchase two personal watercraft. All funding must be expended prior to September 30, 2010 per the terms of the grant.
Action to be taken following Board approval:
1) Purchasing will complete the bid.
2) Sheriff will purchase personal water craft from successfull bidder.
3) Sheriff will expend funds by September 30, 2010.
