Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: The cost of the file server and backup tape drive for Public Health admin is quoted at $17,338 and will be paid out of realignment funding.  The server for Animal Control is quoted at $6,220, paid out of Fund 10.  These items have been included in the FY 07/08 proposed budget.

Background: The Dell maintenance contract on the Department's current Admin server expires the middle of October, and is not renewable.   If Public Health delays this purchase till the end of September, the replacement server will not be installed and operational until November.  This would place the Department at risk of having a server failure without a maintenance and support agreement in place.

Additionally, the Department would like to get the Animal Control server onsite as early as possible, to use as a server temporarily extending the life of the Department's Citrix Server system.   When the Citrix Server system is dismantled in January, Public Health will replace the current Animal Control server with this new unit.

These items were included and approved in the Department's Proposed FY 2007-08 Budget and would normally be purchased after the Board approves the Final FY 2007-08 Budget in September.  However, due to the risk of experiencing a server failure without a maintenance agreement in place, Public Health is requesting this item be purchased as soon as possible. County IT supports making these purchases at this time.

Action to be taken following Board approval:  Department to process purchase of two file servers and a tape backup system; Board to direct Auditor to pay associated invoice.
