Body

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

In June 2020, with Legistar file 20-0847, following a County-wide classification and compensation study, the title of “Health Education Coordinator” was changed to “Health Educator”.

California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 17, §1303 requires that individuals holding the classification of Health Educator must possess a master’s degree specializing in public or community health education, awarded upon completion of a program accredited by the American Public Health Association.

The County’s current minimum qualifications for the Health Educator classification do not require a master’s degree. To avoid non-compliance with CCR Title 17, §1303, Human Resources is recommending that the title be reverted to Health Education Coordinator. This change will ensure alignment with state requirements.

ALTERNATIVES

The Board could choose not to adopt the resolution and direct Human Resources to conduct additional analysis or make revisions. However, this course of action would leave the County out of compliance with the educational standards mandated by CCR Title 17, §1303 for the Health Educator classification.
