DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
This event is held in September each year at the Cameron Park Air Park. The CHP Foundation is excited to host the 7th Annual Cops & Rodders Show & Shine, Car Show and Fly-in event on September 24, 2022.
The County’s Fee Waiving policy states that fees can only be waived for a specific event, one time, but the language is silent on those annual community events that benefit multiple local organizations. The CHP Foundation is keenly aware of requesting this waiver each year and in doing so, if approved, will be able to provide more funds to local organizations.
Last year’s event included not only the classic airplanes and cars but also food trucks, children’s activities, military and local EMS displays and participation. This year the addition of a regional media sponsor and live music will draw a larger crowd with the sponsored media coverage.
The CHP Foundation disperses the proceeds from each year’s event to many organizations. Beneficiaries change from year to year, some of the past recipients receiving funds have been: El Dorado & Ponderosa High Schools; Center for Violence Free Relationships; The Brian Ishmael Scholarship Fund; Motherlode Rehabilitation Enterprises and CHP Senior Volunteers. The volunteer leadership works directly with the El Dorado Community Foundation to ascertain the identities of local organizations that are in immediate need for funds. The Foundation acts as the Fiscal Agent for this fundraiser which includes all registrations and disbursement of funds.
Last year’s event (2021) raised $22,350 and the distribution was as follows:
• $2,100 to the Cameron Park Airport District
• $8,000 to the CAHP Widows and Orphans’ Trust Fund
• $1,500 to CHP Senior Volunteers, Area 245 (local CHP Office)
• $2,000 to M.O.R.E
• $2,000 to El Dorado County Office of Education (EDCOE)
• $1,000 to CHP Museum
• $1,000 to Child Advocates of El Dorado (CASA)
• $750 to the Upper Room Dining Hall
• $1,500 to El Dorado County Sheriff’s EXPLORERS Fund
• $500 to El Dorado County Sheriff’s STARS Fund
• $500 to Ponderosa High School Band Boosters
• $500 to Big Brothers & Big Sisters - Placerville
• $500 to Encompass Community Services (YOUTH at El Dorado Center)
• $500 to Friends of Juvenile Justice Fund.
I am asking the Board to authorize the waiver of fees totaling $1,403 ($724-DOT/$593-Planning/$86-EM) as this event provides a community benefit to so many.
ALTERNATIVES
The Board could choose not to approve the waiver and less funds would be available to distribute to those organizations in need.
