DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
On September 10, 2024, the Board heard the Introduction (First Reading) of Ordinance 5207 and Continued the matter to September 24, 2024 for Final Passage (Second Reading).
On June 26, 2024, the Fish and Wildlife Commission voted unanimously to amend the Section 6.28.055(B) with the addition of deer to the existing list of animals. County ordinance code Section 6.28.055(B) provides for the restriction of feeding wild or non-domesticated animals.
The existing ordinance prohibits the knowingly and willfully feeding or providing access to food to any coyote, mountain lion, or bear. This amendment will add deer to the list and align with state law.
On July 16, 2024, the Board the Board provided conceptual approval for the ordinance amendment (Legistar File 24-1171).
The ordinance will take effect 30 days following Final Passage.

The Board could choose not to approve this ordinance and direct staff to return with an updated ordinance.

2) Publish the ordinance Summary in the local newspaper no less than 5 days prior to Final Passage.
3) Publish the ordinance within 15 days after its passage in a newspaper of general circulation published and circulated in the County and send the full ordinance to Municode for codification following Final Passage.
