Body

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The Meyers Community Foundation seeks financial support for our annual Tree Lighting Event, a cherished tradition that illuminates the Meyers Tree from the First Friday in December through much of the winter season. This event serves as a beacon of holiday spirit in our community. The funds we are requesting will be allocated towards two vital initiatives:

Maintenance and Enhancement of the Meyers Tree Lights: A significant portion of the funds will be dedicated to the upkeep, repair, and replacement of the lights adorning the Meyers Tree. These funds are crucial for ensuring that our iconic tree continues to shine brightly and bring joy to residents and visitors throughout the holiday season.

Bike Rack Installation and Maintenance: Beyond the Tree Lighting Event, we are committed to improving our community's infrastructure. We have installed bike racks throughout Meyers to promote sustainable transportation and a healthier lifestyle. The requested funds will help us add more bike racks and repair those that have been damaged, making our community even more bike-friendly and accessible to all.

A funding agreement is required in order for the County to process the payment to Meyers Community Foundation.  Approval by the Board provides the finding that a public benefit is derived from supporting this endeavor, which seeks to provide an essential community venue.

ALTERNATIVES

The Board could choose not to approve the funding request, and no funding would be provided in support of these efforts.
