DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The American Legion Post 795 is a 501(c)(19) organization which operates and maintains the American Legion Post in So Lake Tahoe to provide a meeting place and services for veterans. The building was built in 1949 and serves as a venue to hold events such as Memorial Day, Flag Day, 9-11, Veterans Day, not to mention the many individual events held at the Post annually which include birthday parties, anniversary parties, Confirmations, and other celebrations in general.  For many years, the American Legion has been THEE place to hold gatherings, which include monthly meetings for PTSD Counseling, SLT Cancer League, Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra and many other civic gatherings. With a new roof, the Post will continue to be able to serve the community with our 70+ year old building.

A funding agreement is required in order for the County to process the payment to American Legion Post 795.  Approval by the Board provides the finding that a public benefit is derived from supporting this endeavor, which seeks to support veterans in our community.
