DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The State of California operates telecommunications facilities at numerous mountaintop locations throughout the state. These facilities were developed for use by State agencies requiring radio communications. The Sheriff's Office has leased space in the communications vault located at the Big Hill radio site for a number of years to provide radio communications for the County.

On April 19, 2016, with Legistar Item 16-0377, in order to continue to provide radio communications, the Sheriff's Office renewed their lease with the State for an initial term of 10 years, from May 1, 2016, through April 30, 2026, with an automatic extension option through December 31, 2030.

At this time, the Sheriff’s Office wishes to terminate Agreement 396-L1611 with the State of California Department of General Services.  All equipment has been moved to a site that does not require payment of rent, and the vault is ready to be turned over to the State of California.
