DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

In collaboration with the Planning and Building Department (Department), Human Resources (HR) conducted a comprehensive review of the classification specification (class spec) for the Deputy Director of Building Services-Chief Building Official, which was last revised in 2018. This review was initiated to ensure that the class spec accurately reflects the evolving responsibilities and functions of the position as they relate to the Department’s operational needs.

 

The proposed revisions were developed through close coordination between the Department and HR to align the classification with the actual work being performed and improve clarity, precision, and consistency. Updates were made to refine the job functions, ensuring they are concise and reflect the current scope of duties. Additionally, the revisions incorporate the County’s current formatting standards, further supporting uniformity across all classification specifications.

The Board could choose not to approve the recommendation and direct HR to make revisions or conduct additional analysis.
