Background: The El Dorado County Sheriff, in conjunction with the Lake Tahoe Community College District, will provide culinary educational training to the inmates at the South Lake Tahoe Jail. This agreement is retroactive to June 1, 2007.
Reason for Recommendation: The culinary arts program provides both college credit and employable skills to help inmates re-enter society after release from jail. The classes will be held in the Jail kitchen as part of the day-to-day jail operation, and the Lake Tahoe Community College District will reimburse the Sheriff the instructor's time. The instructor will be a Correctional Cook assigned to the SLT Jail.
Action to be taken following Board approval: The Board Clerk will file the memorandum of Agreement.
