DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION: Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) recommending the Board approve and authorize the Chair to sign a Proclamation recognizing May 2018 as “Skin Cancer Awareness Month” in El Dorado County.
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:
The month of May has historically been named “Skin Cancer Awareness Month” both nationally and in the State of California. This will be the second year the County of El Dorado Board of Supervisors has approved a Proclamation naming May as “Skin Cancer Awareness Month.”
In a joint effort, HHSA, Active Living Leadership Team, Marshall Medical Center, El Dorado Community Health Center, and the El Dorado Hills Community Service District are striving to educate the local communities about skin cancer prevention. All citizens, governmental agencies, public and private institutions, businesses, hospitals and schools in El Dorado County are encouraged to increase public awareness of the importance of skin cancer prevention and promote greater understanding and use of skin protective habits.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could decline to approve the Proclamation naming May as “Skin Cancer Awareness Month.”
