DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
Board policy A-3 - Ordinances - New or Amended, requires ordinance amendments to be presented to the Board of Supervisors for conceptual review and authorization to prepare the ordinance amendment.
County ordinance code Section 6.28.055(B) provides for the restriction of feeding wild or non-domesticated animals. The existing Ordinance prohibits the knowingly and willfully feeding or providing access to food to any coyote, mountain lion, or bear. The amendment will add deer to the list and align with state law.
On June 26, 2024, the Fish and Wildlife Commission voted unanimously to amend the Section 6.28.055(B) with the addition of deer to the existing list.
If the Board approves this recommendation, the Department of Agriculture will work with County Counsel to draft the ordinance amendment for the Board's review.
ALTERNATIVES
The Board could choose not to approve this recommendation, which would result in no change to Ordinance 4437 and not be in alignment with state law.
