Sheriff’s Office recommending the Board:
1) Accept an award in the amount of $100,359.20 from the Department of California Highway Patrol (CHP) for the Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program (CTFGP); and
2) Adopt and authorize the Chair to sign the required Governing Body Resolution 107-2023, per California Code of Regulations Title 13, Division 2, Chapter 13, Section 1890.13(g), accepting the grant award, and authorizing the Sheriff’s Office to enter into a contract with the CHP, and identifying the Sheriff’s Office designees authorized to execute on behalf of El Dorado County extensions, grant agreements, amendments and subsequent grant modifications with the CHP, subject to approval by County Counsel.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The CHP solicited for grantees to receive funding in order to reduce and mitigate the impacts of impaired driving in the community. Grant funds shall be used for trainings, education, prevention, and/or the enforcement of traffic laws related to driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs, including cannabis and cannabis products. The Sheriff’s Office applied and was conditionally approved on June 6, 2023, for the CTFGP funding in the amount of $100,359.20 for a project performance period of 07/01/2023 - 06/30/2024. The final approval and award are contingent upon receiving documentation from the local governing body, the County Board of Supervisors, authorizing the Sheriff’s Office to receive the grant funding.
The Sheriff’s Office's application included a request of funding to offset costs associated with multiple deputies working weekend shifts twice per month to provide additional resources to combat concerns of individuals driving under the influence (DUI). The overall goal of this increased enforcement is to decrease the amount of DUI cases in the County.
