DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

On January 23, 2024, the Board approved the reassignment of the Airports program to the Chief Administrative Office, to be effective July 1, 2024 (Legistar Item 23-2157). In preparation for this transition staff in the Department and the Chief Administrative Office have been meeting to share information about the program, current projects, and outstanding issues. Several matters warrant more in-depth study, and it has been determined that a greater level of involvement from the Board of Supervisors would enhance the ability to solve problems and make progress.

It is proposed that a Board-appointed Ad Hoc Committee on Airports work with staff to study airports issues, including operations, ordinance and policies, the Airports Advisory Committee, Airports Capital Improvements, Economic Development Study, and funding strategies.

ALTERNATIVES
