DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
With the completion of the Public Safety Facility the Sheriff Department moved their operations out of 300 Fair Lane in September of 2019. Being the Fair Lane location is well beyond its useful life, the demolition of the entire structure is scheduled for early 2021.

Recently, the County was contacted by the El Dorado County Fire Protection District (Fire District) with the request to potentially use this location for specialized training. This location would allow them to train in high risk/low frequency firefighting activities that are unique to commercial type structures. Training activities will include manipulative hose work, rescue scenarios, ventilation and forcible entry evolutions during three training days that will occur in December. Should the Board approve this FUA, it shall expire on December 31, 2020 with no cost to either party.

The Division further recommends the Board make a determination that use of the County’s property as described above provides a public benefit. Specialized training of this nature benefits public safety by allowing the Fire District to develop these important skills.

ALTERNATIVES
The Board could decline this FUA and the Fire District would need to find a different location for this specialized training.
