Title

Supervisor Laine, on behalf of the family of Giada Lancellotti, the young girl tragically killed while riding her e-bike in South Lake Tahoe, recommending the Board consider the Lancellotti family's request to paint a commemorative mural on and place a plaque in memory of Giada on the Tahoe Paradise Park Bridge.

Body

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

On June 7, 2025, Giada Lancellotti was tragically struck by a vehicle while riding her e-bike in South Lake Tahoe.

In honor of her memory and to create a lasting tribute, the Lancellotti family is requesting permission to install a commemorative mural in memory of Giada at the Tahoe Paradise Park Bridge. The mural would be created by a local artist, Matthew  Kauffmann, reflecting both Giada’s spirit and the community’s support for the family during this difficult time.  The Meyers Community Foundation has pledged $5000 towards the mural.

The family would also like to request consideration of naming the bridge with placards on the bridge frame:   “In Loving Memory of Giada Lancellotti” and “Live Like Giada”

ALTERNATIVES

The Board could decide to conceptually approve the request but direct staff to draft a policy regarding the naming of bridges and the use of public art and return to the board for adoption.

The Board could request a draft policy regarding the naming of bridges and the use of public art be returned to the board for adoption and then revisit the request from the Lancellotti family.

The Board could decide not to support the painting of the mural and the naming of the bridge at the Tahoe Paradise Park Bridge.
