DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION

Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) recommending the Board receive a presentation by Child Welfare Services, to update the community and the Board on issues related to Child Welfare Services.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

While Federal and State regulations provide the framework for child welfare services in California, HHSA’s Child Welfare Services program strives to provide an integrated approach by involving families, community service partners, and the community at large.  The County’s “Healthy Communities” Strategic Plan provides a structure for the Child Welfare Services program.  Areas of focus for the presentation will include defining child welfare services, their mandates, and service delivery system.  It will also define the challenges faced by child welfare services, their impact on the community, and solutions to move forward.
