DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:
Domestic violence is prevalent in every community, and affects people of all ages, socio-economic status, religion, race, sexual orientation or nationality. Frequently emotional abuse and controlling behavior are a component along with physical violence. Domestic violence can result in physical injury up to and including death. The long term effect of domestic violence and psychological trauma crosses generations. The County of El Dorado is fortunate to have two domestic violence shelters - The Center for Violence-Free Relationships and Live Violence Free.
In recognition of these organizations’ good services and commitment to the community, the County proclaims October 2020 as “Domestic Violence Awareness Month.”
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could decline to approve the Proclamation naming October as ““Domestic Violence Awareness Month.”
