Background: The California Department of Public Health in cooperation with the California Geological Survey conducted a voluntary radon-screening project to measure the indoor radon levels in selected zip code areas in the Tahoe basin area of El Dorado County. Preliminary results of this screening indicate that a percent of the homes tested had elevated radon levels of 4 picocuries per liter (pCi/L) or higher, the EPA recommended action level. The Environmental Management Department supports a radon education and public outreach program in cooperation with the California Department of Public Health. In addition, the Department will work with the Development Services Department to provide permit recipents with radon mitigation information.
