Sheriff's Office recommending the Board approve and authorize the Chair to sign Amendment I to Agreement 019-S1211 with the County of Sacramento to increase the compensation by $30,000, thereby increasing the not-to-exceed amount to $180,000 for the term July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2014 to continue to receive reports from certified forensic pathologists in instances of a homicide, suspicious death or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: The Sheriff's Office regularly budgets for this service. As a result, there is no change to Net County Cost.
Background: When the El Dorado County Coroner investigates a homicide, a suspicious death or a death from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, an autopsy needs to be conducted by a certified forensic pathologist in order to have credible evidence for a court proceeding or to comply with state protocols. El Dorado County does not employ a certified forensic pathologist, and as a result, the Sheriff's Office has historically contracted with Sacramento County for these services.
The current contract with Sacramento County for these services expires on June 30, 2014.
Reason for Recommendation: Approval of this recommendation will allow the Sheriff's Office to amend its current contract with Sacramento County Coroner to increase the compensation by $30,000 to continue receiving reports from a certified forensic pathologist in instances of a homicide, suspicious death or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
