Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: There is no change to net county cost. This expense has been included in the Sheriff's FY2010-11 budget. The cost for each subsequent year will be included in the applicable year's budget.

Background: The State of California operates telecommunciations facilities at numerous mountaintop locations throughout the state. These facilities were developed for use by State agencies requiring radio communications. The Sheriff's Department has leased space in the Communications Vault located at the Big Hill Radio site for a number of years to provide radio communications for the County. The last time this agreement came before the Board was March 16, 2004.

Reason for Recommendation: In order to continue to provide radio communications, the Sheriff's Department had to renew their lease with the State. This agreement is for a term of 5 years retroactive to October 1, 2010 through September 30, 2015. Compensation per the agreement requires payment in October of each year with the first payment due in October 2010 in the amount of $1,770.

Action to be taken following Board approval: Chair will sign three copies of the agreement. Signed agreements will be returned to the Sheriff's department for disbursement and initial payment will be made.
