DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
At the August 14, 2018 Board of Supervisors meeting, PG&E provided a presentation on a new PG&E safety measure that would shut off power to customers who are served by PG&E electric lines that run through extreme firethreat areas.
This presentation was brought to the Board following a series of meetings between El Dorado County Office of Emergency Services (OES) and PG&E, at which OES was given a general outline of the program and information on the frequency and duration of any Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS). OES shared concerns regarding the effect on vulnerable citizens, the logistics of mass care and shelter during evacuations due to wildfires, infrastructure concerns, notification timelines, and trigger points. Although the meetings have been productive, OES and HHSA still have concerns that PG&E will need to address.
The presentation today includes updated information on how wildfire risk information will be gathered, assessed, and monitored, and more information on communication with the public and preventative measures including vegetation management.
