DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
El Dorado County has previously recognized “National Bike Month” with community events celebrating bicycling and the well-being it imbues within County residents as an excellent form of healthy, fun, and affordable recreational activity for all ages.
This year, the Parks and Trails Division (Parks) in partnership with the El Dorado County Transportation Commission (EDCTC) is raising awareness of the many public benefits and the recreational value of bicycling.
The County’s multi-use El Dorado Trail is an important recreational resource for residents and visitors alike, providing a regional trail system enjoyed by bicyclists as well as hikers and equestrians. Promoting bicycling and other uses on the El Dorado Trail also promotes access to County parks, contributing to healthier, safer, and more connected communities.
On May 31, 2025, Parks and EDCTC are hosting a Community Bike Ride on El Dorado Trail that starts at the Ray Lawyer trailhead and culminates at the grand opening and ribbon cutting for the Missouri Flat Road Bike/Pedestrian Overcrossing.
With the Board’s approval of the Bike Month Proclamation, the County can recognize the importance of bicycling and recreation for all ages as a means to enjoy the County’s parks and trails system.
