DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:
The month of May has historically been named “Skin Cancer Awareness Month” both nationally and in the State of California. This will be the third year the County of El Dorado Board of Supervisors has approved a Proclamation naming May as “Skin Cancer Awareness Month.”
In a joint effort, HHSA, Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL), Marshall Medical Center, and El Dorado Community Health Center are all striving to educate the local communities about skin cancer prevention. All citizens, governmental agencies, public and private institutions, businesses, hospitals and schools in El Dorado County are encouraged to increase public awareness of the importance of skin cancer prevention and promote greater understanding and use of skin protective habits.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board of Supervisors could decline to adopt this Proclamation to recognize May 2019 as “Skin Cancer Awareness Month.”
