DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION
The District Attorney recommends the additional funding be approved and fixed asset amount increased so all necessary equipment for the digital forensic lab may be purchased.

The District Attorney originally requested $40,000 for the purchase of equipment and software for a digital forensic lab in the District Attorney's leased facility. This approval was received from the Board of Supervisors on January 9, 2018, Agenda File 17-1333. At that time, the Board also approved adding a Forensic Tower to the District Attorney's fixed asset list. The Board approved the requested $20,000 for the Forensic Tower.
Due to an increase in the price of the Forensic Tower and the omission of sales tax from the original quote, it is estimated an additional $6,000 is necessary to complete the purchase of the Forensic Tower and related software. As a result, the District Attorney is requesting the fixed asset amount for the Forensic Tower be increased from $20,000 to $26,000.
Per CA Government Code 30061-30063, moneys allocated from a Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Account (SLESA) to a recipient entity shall be expended exclusively to provide front line law enforcement services.
