DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
On November 9, 2021, the board approved the District Attorney's acceptance of the CalOES Violence Against Women Vertical Prosecution (VV) Program grant award in the amount of $270,060, extending the current program award period from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022. The purpose of this program is to vertically prosecute violent crimes against the vulnerable adult population.
A primary focus of this program is to continue funding one Victim Advocate through a contract with the Center for Violence-Free Relationships using the grant award. Having a dedicated Victim Advocate on the VV project team allows the Victim Witness Unit to expeditiously conclude cases, reduce victim trauma, and enhance our services to victims.
Contract 3370 with the Center for Violence-Free Relationships provides one full-time Victim Advocate dedicated to the VV Program. Amendment IV to the contract extends the service period of the contract through December 31, 2022, to align with the change in the grant award period, with no change to the monthly service rate. Amendment IV increases the not-to-exceed amount of the contract by $76,920 for the additional 12-month period.
ALTERNATIVES
Should the Board decline to approve the amendment, the District Attorney's Office will no longer be able to provide a Victim Advocate for the VV Program.
