DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
Community, business, and economic development play a key role in providing a balanced economy for a local government, and a desirable quality of life for residents. The County of El Dorado has identified a critical need to support and retain existing businesses and industries while encouraging those uniquely compatible to locate and grow in the County. The Economic Development Element, Policy 10.1.1.1, of the County's General Plan envisions a community-oriented group to advise and actuate economic development policy for the County.
The Board of Supervisors created the Economic Development Advisory Commission on May 9, 2006 with Resolution 103-2006. The Resolution has been updated and superseded a number of times to revise membership, terms of office, and the name of the committee, which is currently the Community & Economic Development Advisory Committee (CEDAC).
At their regularly scheduled meeting on November 9, 2017, CEDAC unanimously voted to recommend the Board of Supervisors rescind Resolution 147-2015 and adopt a new governing Resolution 177-2017. Substantive changes include: increasing the number of Members from 7 to 9 by removing the Alternate At-Large Member and adding two additional At-Large Members; increasing the term for At-Large Members from two years to four years; and, adding the word 'community' throughout the resolution to emphasize the CEDAC’s focus on community and economic development.
