DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

On April 25, 2024, the City Council of South Lake Tahoe approved and signed a resolution transferring older model surplus mobile patrol car radios to El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office to enable the County to transmit and receive on the City Police Department’s primary channel. The City upgraded the older models during a citywide radio project and the items were deemed as surplus.

The City had purchased these radios using funds from Prop 172 dedicated from a public safety sales tax.  The current value of these radios is approximately $25,000.

The Sheriff’s Office gratefully accepts this donation from the City of South Lake Tahoe.

ALTERNATIVES

The Board could choose to not accept this donation, however, the Sheriff’s Office could lose the ability to communicate effectively with the City of South Lake Tahoe Police Department.
