DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
Business and Professions Code Section 6301(a)(4) establishes that the Chair of the Board of Supervisors serves as an ex officio trustee. The statute also provides that, at the request of the Chair, the Board of Supervisors may appoint a member of the State Bar, another member of the Board of Supervisors, or any resident of the county to serve as trustee in place of the Chair. Any such appointment automatically expires upon the selection of a new Chair of the Board of Supervisors and is not subject to the provisions of Section 6302.
A Notice of Vacancy has been posted since February 26, 2025. The Clerk of the Board’s Office received an application from Mr. Anderson requesting consideration for appointment to this trustee position. Chair Laine reviewed the application and determined that Mr. Anderson’s professional background and qualifications make him a strong candidate for the role. Historically, this appointment has been challenging to fill, and Mr. Anderson’s interest provides an opportunity to ensure continuity and effective representation on the Board. Chair Laine has requested that the Board consider appointing Mr. Anderson to serve as trustee in place of the Chair pursuant to Section 6301(a)(4).
