Community Development Agency, Transportation Division (Transportation) recommending the Board approve and authorize the Transportation Director to sign a letter of support for the El Dorado County Transportation Commission’s (EDCTC) application for a Caltrans Sustainable Community Grant to fund the creation of an Active Mobility Plan for the County.
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
On November 9, 2010 the EDCTC published the County’s first Bicycle Transportation Plan. The EDCTC now plans to update this document to encompass an active transportation plan. An active transportation plan includes bicycle and walk ways and their inter-connection to transit and roadways. When completed, the finished report will be titled the “El Dorado County Active Mobility Plan”.
Transportation is supportive of the concept of developing an active transportation program that serves the needs of visitors as well as the rural and urban residents of El Dorado County. We recognize the health, well-being, and quality of life benefit this program could help to provide. An El Dorado County Active Mobility Plan will improve the EDCTC and the County’s ability to obtain future funding to make this plan a reality.
