Background
The Federal government recently awarded the Fiscal Year 2012 Homeland Security Grant program funds to the States for the State Homeland Security Grant Program. The County’s allocation from the State is $188,682. The grant application is due on August 17, 2012.
The County is the subgrantee, and provides funding for equipment, training, planning and exercise costs to the Cities of South Lake Tahoe and Placerville, Sheriff’s Department, Public Health, Environmental Management, Fire Districts, and other eligible local agencies to prevent, respond and recover from terrorist events, and other local disasters and emergencies.
Reason for Recommendation
El Dorado County applies for this grant annually. The FY 2012 grant was released and the application due date has been set for August 17, 2012. The Sheriff’s Department is requesting approval of the Resolution to be submitted with the application.
As required by the Homeland Security Grant, the County Board of Supervisors created an Approval Authority, representing the Cities of Placerville and South Lake Tahoe, Sheriff, Fire Districts, Public Health and Environmental Management on April 8, 2003, to approve the distribution of the grant funds at the local level. The Approval Authority will meet and approve a plan for allocating the grant funds to needed projects.
