DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
On December 30, 2021 the Sheriff’s Office was notified it had been awarded the funding for the FY 2021 Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) in the amount of $265,040 for the retroactive term of September 1, 2021 through May 31, 2023. Annually, the Sheriff and four other voting members (County Fire, City Police, City Fire, and Public Health) meet to discuss the needs of the County and determine the most appropriate uses of the funding. The FY 2021 Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) plays an important role in the implementation of the National Preparedness System (NPS) by supporting the building, sustainability, and delivery of core capabilities essential to achieving the NPS of a secure and resilient nation. Delivering core capabilities requires the combined effort of the whole community, rather than the exclusive effort of any single organization or level of government.
The objective of the FY 2021 HSGP is to provide funds to eligible entities to support state, local, tribal, and territorial efforts to prevent terrorism and other catastrophic events and to prepare the nation for the threats and hazards that pose the greatest risk to the security of the United States. The FY 2021 HSGP’s allowable costs support efforts to build and sustain core capabilities across the Prevention, Protection, Mitigation, Response, and Recovery mission areas. El Dorado County has been awarded $265,040 for the FY 2021 grant which will be used by various County entities to protect and serve El Dorado County.
