Body
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The additional fixed asset utility bed was determined to be needed when replacing the Fleet vehicle for the Materials Lab, under Department of Transportation. The utility bed was originally budgeted under an operating transfer out as it was assumed to be part of the Fleet fixed asset. However after further analysis, the utility bed has been determined to be a department-owned fixed asset as it will be removed from the truck and utilized on future replacement vehicles, therefore it should be budgeted under fixed assets.
Budgeted appropriations in the Transportation budget need to be increased in Fixed Assets - Equipment by $16,000 in the Transportation Engineering Division Org, offset by a decrease in Operating Transfers Out in the amount of $16,000 in the Transportation General Department Org. This budget transfer allows for the purchase of the fixed asset with no increase to the overall budget.
ALTERNATIVES
The Board may elect not to approve the budget transfer and purchase of one (1) truck utility bed. This would leave the Materials Lab without the capability of transporting necessary lab equipment for testing on various county infrastructure projects.
