Discuss and Gather Feedback on Draft Vision and Mission Statements

Review and discuss current draft Vision and Mission statements with the Museum Commission and gather community feedback. This item was initially shared at the June 6, 2025 Commission meeting and updated after receiving community feedback. This is a continued and ongoing project.
• Current Mission Statement: The Mission of the County Museum is to exhibit and interpret the heritage of the County in a current, accurate, and engaging manner; to be a valuable historical resource to the community through its well-organized research facility, historical exhibits, and educational programs; to collect, document, and preserve artifacts and records significant to the history of El Dorado County using the highest standards of scholarship and professional museum and archival practices; and to provide a rewarding experience for volunteers and enhance the museum's significance to the community.
• Updated Draft Vision Statement: The El Dorado County Historical Museum will be a nationally-recognized leader, preserving and interpreting the complete, diverse history and cultures of El Dorado County. We will safeguard our inclusive collections and narratives as a dynamic resource for future generations' education and enrichment.
• Updated Draft Mission Statement: The El Dorado County Historical Museum collects, protects, and presents the diverse stories and comprehensive history of El Dorado County, connecting its narrative to California and the nation. We serve as a widely accessible and collaborative community cornerstone, fostering appreciation and providing enriching educational opportunities through dynamic engagement in person, online, and through public programming.
