DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
Through the "People to People International Program" many citizens and groups of students have exchanged visits to host families in El Dorado County and to host families in Warabi, effectively demonstrating the principles its founder, President Eisenhower, believed - that "people will make friends across, around, over and under all the natural and man-made barriers which separate them." The mission of "People to People International" is to enhance international understanding and friendship through educational, cultural, and humanitarian activities involving the exchange of ideas and experiences directly among people of different countries and diverse cultures, promoting peace through understanding.
The El Dorado County Chapter of People to People maintains the sister city relationship. The City of Warabi will provide the costs to send their youth to El Dorado County and the People to People group will organize homestays with local families and then organize the schedule of activities.
2025 will be our 50th anniversary having the City of Warabi as our sister city. El Dorado County will host a delegate of representatives from the City of Warabi in the Spring of 2025, and then El Dorado County will be invited to send a delegate of representatives to the City of Warabi in the Fall of 2025. Having events in both locations allows a celebration during our anniversary year.
ALTERNATIVES
The Board could choose to not approve the letter to the mayor of the City of Warabi which will result in Supervisor Hidahl not having the letter to present at the Sayonara Party on July 31st.
