DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The El Dorado Irrigation District (EID) is seeking funding through a grant opportunity offered by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for its Wholesale Meter Replacement Project. Currently, the EID uses older, less accurate meters, to track their water conservation efforts. The region that the EID serves has gone through repeated drought conditions, and has had to increase its efforts in tracking the water system's losses. If awarded the grant, the EID would be able to afford new automated read meters which would help combat effects of future droughts. Potential benefits of the meter replacement would include accurate, automatic readings of water flow, better assessment of the water system's losses, and greater success in the EID's water conservation efforts.
